EIGHT LIMBS OF ASHTANGA YOGA with Sonja (E-RYT 200)
In this workshop, that is taken over 5 days, we will learn a bit more about the eight limbs i.e. Asht (eight) Anga (limbs). Subjects covered will be :- Yamas, Niyamas, Asanas, Pranayama, Prathyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi.
Yin Yoga and Myofascial release workshop with Roberta Lisboa
Yoga is a great adjunct to the practice of myofascial release for both practitioner and client. Fundamental characteristic of Yin Yoga is holding poses for several minutes. Connective tissue doesn’t respond to brief, rhythmical stretches the way muscles do. Connective tissues are tough and fibrous and stretch best when pulled like taffy.
When you combine these two practices together along with some flexibility training you will break up scar tissue, get rid of trigger points, release toxins, strengthen your bones, improve your lung and heart function and dramatically enhance your flexibility helping you optimize your yang yoga style such as Ashtanga, Power, Vinyasa flow.
Roberta started learning yoga in Brazil 12 years ago. She studied through Europe and Asia and now divides her time between India, Europe and Brazil, teaching retreats and trainings and practicing private bodywork and massage.
FIVE DAY IYENGAR YOGA with Les
1. Finding your Feet (2½ hrs)
The first 2-½ hour practice will focus on the foundation of postures using advanced techniques and the important role it plays on the structure of the pose. I will emphasise the importance of alignment through the whole body from the feet upwards. We will also explore accessing the bandhas through the foundation in standing, sitting and inverted postures.
2. Finding your feet - part 2 (2½ hrs)
Continuing from the first day we will now explore how to use the legs and pelvis in the construction of standing poses.
3. Bending over backwards (2½ hrs)
Using the building blocks from the previous classes we learn how to really use the legs in backbends. Again building the poses from the ground up giving you a new understanding and more control in backbends.
4. Forward Bending (2½ hrs)
Again strong use of the legs in seated forward bends. It will help to bring balance to your legs freeing your upper body, and a bring extra length and extension.
5. Invert (2½ hrs)
In this final session we will refine the inversions headstand, handstand and Pincha Maryasana and learn technique’s to get extra lift and stability. All the elements learned in the 4 previous classes will come together and be applied in this class.
Laya Yoga - Meditation or the 8 Absorptions of Dharna, Dhyana, Samadhi with Chloe Dodd
Chloe Dodd is a Yoga professional, crystal healer, she specialises in facilitation of Laya Yoga Meditation or the 8 Absorptions of Dharna, Dhyana, Samadhi also called as Laya Yoga. Having been mentored in the art of dharna for eight years by a group of Higher Consciousness
teachers from the United States, initiated in the Sacred knowledge or techniques of the Pranic Energy Body or Merkabah. This ancient school of meditation was then integrated by her into the Layas or the eight absorptions of Meditation.
She qualified at the Institute of Yoga Mumbai and now teach Philosophy of Yoga at teachers traning’s, as well as Laya Yoga, the most unique form of the Ashtanga Meditation Techniques of Concentration Meditation and Samadhi. Unlocking the keys to Dharna (concentration), meditating within the Realms of Form and working with her pranic light body, has been quite an experience! and the people behind this grand system of knowledge which find its roots in the Vedas even more so.
The course taught by her is about Dharna - Dhyana is the very map itself of a system of knowledge that determines Consciousness as spoken about by Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras. Dharna like all other aspects of Yoga requires discipline, but it is that type of art of meditation that is sure to give you an experience into the depths of your Being that brings one such equanimity, such satisfaction like none other, and tuning in of those aspects of Self that need seeing into or insight about your Purpose.

10 DAYS with Marina Bergamin
A ten day program in which we will dive into the various aspects of Hatha Yoga, through asanas, pranayama, meditation, kriyas, yoga nidra and sacred chants. We will progressively build a strong sadhana which will enable you to practice at home with understanding and confidence. Five hours a day split into morning & afternoon sessions over the 10 days. A total of 14 hours over the three days to immerse yourself into the different aspects of Hatha Yoga through :Asanas, pranayama, meditation and yoga nidra.
YOGA DANCE with Sharanya
This workshop will focus on using one's breath in order to guide the body's movement. Finding our own natural rhythm through the help of various 'release' techniques enables us to move with more freedom, whilst maintaining an awareness of the various muscles we could utilize in order to sustain our flow!
Along with the technique of working the core muscles, we shall explore movement, not just by ourselves, but also with other dancing bodies..an exchange of energy, which can create dynamic possibilities in the movement realm!
All the dance workshops this season will focus on the spine and its distinct ability to manouvere and control the body, so as to allow it to move how it wants to while making sure to avoid injuries!
Having studied classical dance, both Indian & Western, as well as contemporary, Sharanya brings to the dance floor her own understanding of movement. However, having said that, it must be made clear that this 3 day workshop is very much an open space for you to come and experiment too! Be it with the flexibility of your body..or even your mind.
SUSHUMNA YOGA PROVIDES PROFESSIONAL TRAINING IN YOGA, PILATES AND YOGALATES specifically targeting yoga & fitness instructors who teach in Gym's or shala's.
Sonja Appel, our director and creator will train you how to correctly teach Pilates classes (good for teachers with some experience in this field) and classes in Ashtanga Yoga (for teachers of Hatha Yoga) to bring you up to an international/global level of class A instruction.
This training is ideal for yoga, zumba and pilates teachers/instructors who have some experience in teaching Yoga but want to improve their teaching methods and enhance their knowledge and skills.
This form of yoga is so popular in the west because it makes you sweat for a full hour and a half. So even longer than Zumba and far more beneficial! You also feel that you have built strength and flexibility and have worked hard to achieve a goal as in aerobics and gym training. So this is ideal for the gym ethos.
These workshops will be three days in length, and will provide your teachers with cutting edge experience in Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow and Pilates teaching methods. We will travel to your establishment or you can send your teachers to us in our studios (over the season).
